Travel insurance conundrum

Options
The family are planning a trip to USA for Christmas 2018. Dad will be paying for house and flights for Parents and the two 23 year olds. Two of the group are travelling at different times, and 1 person will be away for 19 nights, 2 for 14 nights and the last for 13 nights.
Not easy to look at on a comparison website. As a group if you put 19 nights in, comes out as £250 to £300. If all done individually, comes out as £180 total. Question is if a claim arises for cancellation because one falls ill, and you are all insured individually, is the total trip cost covered by 4 separate policies?
Any sage advice please

Comments

  • Depends on what it says under the Cancellation section of the policy; "we pay..." then usually 'your share of the costs' or 'the amount you paid'. So if one person cancelled because of illness, they might get their share or the amount they actually paid.

Also, claims tend to only succeed if they're necessary. So if one person was ill, you'd each have to show why it was necessary for you not to go on holiday.
