The full survey has come back, highlighting the fact that there needs to have work done costing £6-£7k

What exactly has the suveyor highlighted as needing to be done?
It's best to get a rough idea of the cost of any necessary work, then speak to the ea about wanting to try to negotiate the price & offer to supply a copy of the paragraphs of the survey that mention the area's of concern, for the vendor's information.The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
