Windscreen replacement claim
Hey all,
Earlier this evening I was driving and my bonnet flew up and smashed my windscreen.
I've called my insurer - paid the £85 windscreen excess and they're going to call again tomorrow to arrange a replacement windscreen.
There is also damage to the bonnet, bonnet catch and the wings of the car - which I assume won't be repaired and I will have to pay for this myself.
If I were to cancel the windscreen claim would I be able to put through and standard claim and get the bodywork, windscreen and bonnet catch replaced? and would this affect my no claims? (I have paid for protected no claims)
Insurance: Hastings Comprehensive

Best ask your insurer that one. They might say this event is not covered as it isn't an accident or fire or theft.0

What car make & model?
How old?
What caused the bonnet to fly up, had you opened it previously and not secured it properly, or is there a fault with the latching mechanism?I think this job really needs
a much bigger hammer.

Vehicle is 57 plate ford focus, and the bonnet catch was always a bit of a pain - but it seems now has completely failed0

This.
From 1998 to 2011 there were two models, both opened from a lock on the grill for which you would have needed the ignition key.
Moving forward, you could be covered for accidental damage but do check your excess (amount) before you call the insurer.0 -
Hastings Direct do have a helpline, why not just phone them and ask?If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.0 -
protected no claims....just means you don't lose your NCD but the premium will still go up0

I called my insurer today to ask for more details.
My excess is £75 compulsory and £75 voluntary - however there is an extra £195 excess if you are under 25.
They said if it went through as a full claim, they would be able to repair the bonnet, windscreen and bonnet catch.
I have protected no claims bonus, however they advised that the claim would go down as a fault claim - and my premium would increase.
I’ve decided to stick with a windscreen claim, and pay for the other repairs myself, there is a breakers near my house selling the same bonnet for £25!0
