Okay odd one.. when I scrub my loo clean, I plunge the bog brush in, and I hear water plopping in the pipe.. then shoots up into the bath, through the plug hole ?? I know the waste pipe will be shared and they are very close to each other .. but is this indicating a blocked pipe ? Or just a natural disturbance as I plunge the brush into the loo.. juts odd it’s spurting into the bath ...not gushing, just a few water drops splashed up into the bath

Hopefully it's just the toilet water causing air pressure in the pipe, which is then pushing the bath water out of the bath U-bend.
If you look down the bath plughole when flushing the toilet you might see the level fluctuate slightly.
If you want to reassure yourself that toilet water is not coming into the bath, put some food colouring into the toilet water and then brush.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0 -
Ahh, I’m going to hope it’s pressure. Makes sense. It only comes up when I plunge and clean with the big brush. It doesn’t trickle into the bath without disturbance .. thank you for your insight 0

Yes a bit of back pressure!
But why? There should not be any unless there is a blockage (or partial one) in the drain or a blocked or missing vent pipe!0 -
The property might not have a vent pipe but an air admittance valve - which will allow air into the pipe to relieve syphoning/suction in U bends, ut not allow air out to relieve pressure.A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.0

Ownain Mon, would that explain the water spluttering into the bath when I brush the loo... and mean I shouldn’t worry much or would it indicate a partial block..
If there is a block ..Any ideas to unblock the pipe ... plunger?0 -
If you have a wet and dry vacuum cleaner, suck the water out of the U-bend in the bath. Or improvise another way to drain it.
Dry out around the plughole, and lay a piece of tissue paper over it. Clean WC. If the paper moves, it's simply air pressure and movement in the pipe.
You can verify that toilet water is not reaching the bath now by looking down the bath plughole with a torch. If it's still dry, then only air has passed by.0 -
It sounds like your air admittance valve isn't working properly. I'll assume the house has the soil pipe finishing in the loft?
It's nothing to worry about ... just replace it of you have issues when flushing the loo.0 -
Awesome. Thank you .. it’s a new house, so I’m finding lots of strange things lol. This was one 0
