Natwest and HSBC question

I am thinking of switching to one of these accounts and my question is about their internet banking service.
How easy is it to use and if you forget your password can you get a new one straight away or do you have to wait for a letter?

I would call them up and ask them I know that some banks allow you to reset your password using your debit card details but obviously it's a specific to each bank0

Natwest you can reset it on line with your bank card. I have locked my account a couple of times, and I have managed to reset it on line with my bank card.0

is that a good thing ? if your card was stolen could they reset your internet banking and log on ?0

The details required are as follows:
First name
Middle name(s) (if any)
Surname
DOB
Home postcode
Sort code
Account number (not shown on NatWest debit cards)
Debit card number
Security number (cvv)
You will also receive a text to your registered mobile number confirming that you have just re-registered for online banking and to phone them if you had not done this.0 -
Not easily if the card was stolen by a stranger but it does raise some concerns if the fraudster knows the account holder.

Wouldn't you also have to use the debit card, debit card pin and reader to actually do anything online? This is a system account and does not represent a real person. To contact the Forum Team email forumteam@moneysavingexpert.com0 -
HSBC uses an app on your phone or a little device to enter a security code into.
Mobile banking is good on both. HSBC use touch ID if you have a phone capable of that, Natwest said they're introducing it soon. Natwest only needs a pin to login into mobile banking.0 -
Didn't realise it was quite so easy to reset someone's logon details for internet banking
someone who knew you would know your name postcode and date of birth and if they had your debit card the only thing missing would be the account number if they could find that out then I guess they could reset your log on details and log onto your internet banking
not sure what they could do if they did log on I assume the only thing they could do of any worth is to make payments to existing payee
I am still surprised this is possible I always thought if you kept your internet banking log on details secret then nobody could ever get them0 -

A user posted that their nine year old son reset her NatWest online banking with her debit card without her knowing. Sounds far fetched but not impossible.
NatWest replied that they were going to investigate this with a view to introducing some new security controls but as yet nothing specific has changed.0
