Son in law just received Equita letter

Hello,
I have just heard from my daughter that her partner has just received a letter from Equita regarding an unpaid parking fine.
The event occurred in an Asda car park and is not being denied in any shape or form.
The issue however is that an original parking fine was never received from the company. Obviously I am an outsider looking in but my son in law suffers from severe OCD and if he had received the original fine he would have paid it as he would worry himself sick until he had.
We are not sure how much the original fine was but Equita are now demanding payment of £130 or they will be sending in the bailiffs to recover goods to the value of the fine.
My son in law has discovered that the letter they received today has the wrong post code on it which may indicate why the original fine never arrived.
He has appealed the decision using their online service but the question is should he pay the £130 pending the decision or withhold the payment for the time being.
Just to make it clear he is not challenging the original fine or the "crime", just not sure what the best course of action is to take.
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thank you.

This was a charge from Parking Eye and Equita
is a debt collector who I must impress on you that
debt collectors in the parking industry are
completely powerless and their threats mean
nothing.
Does the letter really say that if you don't pay,
they will send in the bailiffs ???
THEY CANNOT AND NOR CAN PARKING EYE
Only if you went to court and lost and did not
pay as instructed by a court, could bailiffs be
instructed
This will show you the type of sham you are
dealing with.
So ....... did the letter actually say that ????0 -
It is a scam, save you SinL from himself, pay them nothing.
Read some of these from the last two years only.

equita will not send in the bsailiffs , please re read the letter! they probably say that if PE take you to court , you loose and do not pay then baillifs may be used
a simple search of tjis forum will tell you that equita are debt collectors , and they are owned by crapita , who also own PE
Pe are usually on the ball and start court cases , IF THEY THINK THEY CAN WIN , however if there has been a mistake on the paperwork or the landowner will not give consent to court action , they then use equitaSave a Rachael

If this was an overstay at an ASDA store, then the best course of action would be to contact ASDA to get it cancelled, or at the very least get ASDA to state that they do not want any furhter action on this matter from their agents, and/or ASDA do not support/want this matter being pursued.
Private parking is an exceptionally murky world, and you must get your words right when dealing with it, you refer to this as a fine - it is not, and when dealing with ASDA or anyone else its critical you get these things right
If you are not sure on what to say - post it here for analysis. From the Plain Language Commission:

Thanks everybody.
I have just had site of this letter and it is referred to as a parking charge and not a fine.
There is also no mention of bailiffs although I think this was the son in law reading too deeply into the words about steps being taken to recover the debt. (As I suggested he panicked!)
Please accept my apologies for this misinformation.0 -
Throughout here you are advised never to reveal who was driving.

In this case it looks like they are sending a debt collector letter. If you were not the driver write to the parking firm and tell them who was so they CANNOT hold you liable. The person who was driving the car is responsible so let them deal with it. Not you! Don’t let people with an agenda tell you otherwise.0 -

Thanks pappagolf.
Certainly not a debt collector letter now I've seen it.
Think he just read something into the letter that wasn't actually there.0 -

Equita are debt collectors and bailiffs. So it’s very likely your son has a debt collector letter, but unlikely he has a bailiff letter. There’s a definite difference. Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .
I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.
