Store card charges sending bills to wrong place

HI All I have had a creation store card for 10+ years at this address never been in arrears.
In May i got a 6 mth job in Spain and sent a cheque to creation finance for the full amount oweing on my card £23.95

I have returned from Spain found no letters but had a phone call from creation finace to say i owe them £120.00 as i had not paid my bill and ignored there letters when he asked my address i told him he then said so you HAVE moved i said not in the last 12 years NO

They had been sending letters to an address i lived in 18 years ago before i even had a store card with them!! They never recieved my cheque and have now added charges I argued til i was blue in the face but my deatails have been passed on to debt collecting agency

today i recive a letter from my regular credit card which i have had for 15 years paid in full each month which says due to an experian search they feel as i owe money they must drop my credit limit from fifteen thousand to two thousand!!!!!what the hell can i do one about creation and two about my credit limit???? Andy

Regarding Creation Finance, that debt is older than 6 years and is very probably statute barred. Do not acknowledge the debt to them in any way, and get yourselve over to Debt-Free Wannabe for some useful letter templates to send to them.

With regards to your credit card, fairly little I believe - it is usually in the T&Cs that they are allowed to drop your credit limit at any time (I'm not sure whether that's with or without 30 days' notice). You could phone them and debate it with them, or alternatively you might vote with your feet and apply elsewhere.
  • Hi the debt is from a lost cheque in May, they havent phoned me or wriiten until this week, Today i get another letter telling me that it cost a considrable amount to trace my new address so they are charging me another hundred pound

Now suddenly a £24.00 (round it off) debt becomes a two hundred quid debt and I havent moved

I have offered to pay the intail amount outstanding from lost cheque but was told no they need the full amount or they will have to take me to CC

    What can i do??????

    has the cheque been cleared?

    have you made written complaint

have you checked whats on your credit records

I would suggest you pay the full amount off.

Then write again with a written complaint demanding both the overcharge back and the removal of any adverse entrys on your credit records otherwise complain to the financial ombudsman's office.
  • Can i just ask why I should pay the full amount?? when they have traced me to an address i havent lived at while ever having that store card?

also why did they not write sooner the cheque has been canceled by my bank feel it was lost in the post

TBH i refuse to pay two hundred odd pound for a twenty four pound payment

    It there mistake not mine
I am not worried about my credit rating to much as ho,d a number of cards i dont use, I can now use my debit card on line for christmas shopping so dont really need a credit card anymore

You haven't answered my other questions and I guess its not really possible to say the best course of action until the full details are known.

However the general thinking is that once things get to an empass its usually better to pay and then reclaim because less damage is done to your credit record that can cause a lot of aggravation.
It's then relatively easy to complain to the FOS/OFT about their treatment of you and then sue in the courts for fiancial loss (i.e. to recover the charges.)

I thought you were declared bankrupt earlier in the year Andy? How have you managed to hold on to your credit cards?
  • Amazing Essexgirl. How on earth did your children survive while you were in Spain for 6 months? And your cats of course. Don't forget the cats!! And, if what you say on this site is true, you still managed to make £1000 a week on ebay at the same time? How remarkable!?

    Complete hokum.
