Replacement Conservatory Roof

I am looking at replacing our 20 year old polycarbonate roof and am considering one of the new tiled roof options. I understand the importance of making sure that it complies with the LABC and is signed off by them to ensure that it is meets all current regulations and standards. The conservatory is a Victorian shape and approximately 6m x 4m.
I have had various quotes (without any veluxs installed) in the range of 20K. I cannot see how there can be any justification for this price; it is manufactured by one or two companies and then provided in kit form for the chosen installer to assemble on site. None of the companies I have contacted manufacture the roofs but just buy them in and their people carry out the installation.
Can anyone explain why the costs are so high for a kit roof with an aluminium frame, thermal insulation, marine ply and composite tiles on top. I understand the manufacturer and installer have to make a profit but if the price was more realistic then everyone in the chain would benefit with the increased business . Any thoughts on this would be appreciated.

If you've had various quotes and they're all in that ballpark, then that's probably what it will cost no matter how much you shop around. I'm not sure what thoughts anyone is likely to provide, unless a member of staff of a manufacturer or fitter comes on to admit that they are in a cartel and all agree to inflated margins.
What do you consider to be the "realistic" price you were expecting? £15k? £10k? £5k? In reality, I wonder if the market for replacement roofs is big enough to benefit from volume and even if prices were lower, is there enough of a market to see business increase by much anyway?0 -
To be honest, I'd question the wisdom of erecting a new roof over windows which have probably seen more than half of their usual lifespan.0

I would also like to hear from people who have had this type of roof installed as to the size of their conservatory and how much they were charged.0

Why? What benefit does this serve?
The roofs are an over priced, hugely profitable, dubious expenditure. That is a given, nothing new there. The general rule is money saving savvy folks do not have them. Again that is a given, nothing new there.0 -

We were just going to replace our poly roof with glass, as a solid roof would have made the adjoining dining room too dark.
To cut a long story short, we had the whole lot knocked down to foundation level and re-built as a hybrid conservatory/orangery.
That cost £10K and it was worth every penny.0 -
Are you replacing it because it's leaking or at the end of it's life, or solely for insulation?
If the latter, then would you consider putting in a flat ceiling inside instead? We did ours DIY at a cost of £500 all in, with 50mm insulation, and it's made a massive difference.0 -

Agree with others, doesn't seem worth spending that much on a conservatory roof assuming the rest of the structure isn't something particularly special. A tiled roof on a conservatory also risks being something halfway between a conservatory and an extension but not having the benefits of either. Have you thought about replacing with glass?0

Hi
As a matter of interest who did you get to do the work and was it on an aluminium or wooden frame.
