Bluetooth with Windows 7

I have just bought a used Dell E6320 Laptop running Windows 7.
Upgrading it to Windows 10 and adding a SSD was going to be my first job but I am surprised how smooth it runs so I am going to leave it alone for the time being.
Has anyone got any tips on getting bluetooth to work with Win7? For some reason bluetooth is switched off by default but even when I switch it on (Bluetooth Settings\Options\Discovery) it still does not find any devices.

Have you put the other devices into discovery mode is the first question?0

Yes I have used Bluetooth quite a lot with Win10 but never with Win7.0

I would start by installing the latest drivers for the bluetooth radio.
What is the service tag of the machine ? and are you running 32 or 64 bit W7 ?0 -

Thanks.
Win 7 64 bit.
I had a look in Device Manager and there was no exclamation marks so I thought everything was OK!
Under Bluetooth Radio it's using the Generic Bluetooth Adapter and the Microsoft Bluetooth Enumerator, I have had a look under the Service Tag 3H3FDS1 and there are two Bluetooth drivers.Do I install them both?0 -
Is there a physical switch or soft switch (e.g. a Fn key combo) to turn On the bluetooth adaptor that you need to activate?0

yes, these two ..0

Downloading and installing the two drivers sorted it and I have now got my phone and a couple of other things connected without any problem.
I was interested in the MS Bluetooth Settings under Discovery it says 'To protect your privacy, select this check box only when you want a Bluetooth device to find this computer' Once the device has been discovered you should untick the box and only tick it again when when you want to find another device? I never did that in Win10!
Many thanks for the help0
