Is BTL still worth it?
Compared to what?
Equities?
Pensions?
Starting your own business?
I don't know. Personally, BTL seems a lot of hassle.
Politically, it's out of favour.
The pendulum is swinging away from landlords, just.
Scotland is tinkering towards 1970s style tenancy laws.
Not there yet, but what's the direction of travel?
I previously had contact with the upper classes as part of my work.
By that I mean people who could get the PM on the phone if needed.
BTL landlords were not of the slightest concern to them.
The mortgage market in general was though.
They were quite concerned about the 2008 financial crash. I was surprised how much that was discussed. And China, the bond markets, QE, oil price. That was discussed.
They were surprisingly bullish on the UK in general, but this was way before Brexit was ever remotely considered.
But BTL was a sandwich in Harrods as far as they were concerned.
As far as the working classes are concerned?
In the last 3 years, I have heard more negative comments concerning private landlords, than in the 30 years prior to that.0 -
