Burns night inspired dinner?

I have friends coming for dinner on Friday. Last time they came we had a cold sea food starter, duck legs in red wine and lemon pudding. I’m trying to think of a menu with a nod to Scotland that’s stylish and reasonably easy. I’ll do cranachan or Scots flummery for pudding. I’m thinking salmon (Scottish) for main, but undecided.... any ideas for starters or mains please?

My (American) mother in law used to serve haggis with toast as a starter, like you would pate, to her friends at this time of year! :j:D:beer::eek::A:p:rotfl::cool::):(:T0

You have to have haggis there somewhere
If not haggis and neeps, how about haggis pakoras for a starter?
I'd have the salmon as a main course if not going for haggis0 -
Myself, I'd go for haggis as a main, with smoked salmon for starter - but agree that haggis can be very filling, and not quite elegant party food.
I always think of fish / seafood and game as quite Scottish, so I might do smoked salmon or game pate as a starter, with salmon (as you said) or pheasant / venison for main. I think a casserole of venison or lamb would be quite good.
Have a good time!0 -
Haggis mixed with cream & whisky served with oatcakes and a watercress side salad is lovely and very easy to do. Cook te haggis as per instructions and add a tablesppon of whisky & 2 tablespoons of cream in per 450g of haggis. Serve warm in ramekins0

Alternately if you decide against a fish main Cullen Skink is a nice starter.0

Chicken Balmoral is an excellent way to make haggis elegant. Stuff chicken breasts with haggis, wrap in bacon, serve with whisky cream sauce. Alternatively make Bonnie Prince Charlie sauce (Drambuie, mushrooms, cream). Still very hearty though.0

Viking_mfw - that sounds divine.
I have a haggis - and now I have an idea of what to do with it. Bonnie Prince Charlie sauce is the way to go!!No longer a spouse, or trailing, but MSE won't allow me to change my username...0 -
