Build a website........

An idea to make a bit of money out of website, is to create a hobbiest site, it doesn't matter what its about, but obviously something you know something about, so for example, knitting or diy or .. I don't know, gardening, whatever you want.
Create a minimum of 5 pages and make sure its interesting and add it to search engines.
Then you can add adverts on there something like google adsense, then everytime someone goes on to your site looking for a gardening tip, some google adverts (or any other adverts) are there for the visitor to click on, and you get paid for the click. There are other pay for click companies I can't remember the name of at the moment.
You don't get paid much, but when you have a lot of traffic, you can start charging for advertising, but you'd have to have a lot of traffic!
Just make sure your web site is interesting and is updated regularly
Hope this helps!0 -

Hobbiest websites created for google adsense adverts have been done to death now, take a look on ebay and there are lots of people selling adsense website templates etc as "business opportunities". In reality this is not worth wasting your time on unless the subject area has little competition. Even then there is a strong possibility of not really getting much in the way of traffic. There is alot to do to get a good position in google and alike and to make a website successful you need to put in lots of effort. It is never a matter of build it and in comes the money.0 -
How to get a web site for less than £5
I can highly recommend having a website and here's what I think is the quickest, easiest, cheapest way of getting one for yourself.
Decide on your name and then buy your domain. Several domain name providers are offering prices as low as £1.99 per year and you only need to buy a minimum 2 years if it's a .co .uk name. Access the user control panel and point that name at your free space. Any free space will do, just do a web search for free webspace. You can also try searching for free picture storage space. I know there's one called photobucket that I hear is quite good, but I haven't got around to looking at it yet.
OK, designing your site when you don't have web authoring software. Easy! Type it out as a word document and then save as html. That's how my first ever page was done and it served me well, even earning me enough money to cover the costs of my Internet access, which was no mean feat back in the days of dial up and paying by the minute.
It's amazing how many basic elements you can include just from using a word processing package: scrolling text, twinkling lights effect, various backgrounds etc. Nowadays, most basic office type packages have web page templates included, and there's usually some form of web publishing programme, so it should be even easier. Failing that, search for free FTP programmes.
Next, you'll want to start adding links and images of what you sell and, perhaps, some fancy stuff. Just do a search for 'free scripts' and the web will throw up thousands of them from which to choose. You just copy and paste into the html. If you can't read html, which I couldn't, then mark the place you want the new piece of code to go by literally typing into the page INSERTCODEHERE, resave the document and open it in something like wordpad. Find the right place and replace INSERTCODEHERE with the script or code.
A lot of the ISPs who provide you with free space don't allow you to run a commercial site from there, but I don't think they object to links leading to commercial or ecommerce enabled sites. So - if you already have an account with somewhere like eBay or, cheaper still, eBid, link to your items. My friend is in the process of doing this right now and has set up on eBid with a free seller account, so no listing fees and only a tiny commission IF she sells. Hey presto - your very own website that can be submitted to the search engines, used on your stationery and linked from all your friends' sites and, better still, it's connected to a secure source that allows you to sell online. It may not be glamorous or hi-tech, but it gives you somewhere to practice your page making skills and a direct route to selling whatever it is you plan to sell. My personal opinion, having tried several selling sites, is to set up with the free online auction account until you find out IF you are going to be able to promote your new webiste well enough to attract enough customers. I know there are many who don't rank eBid very highly but it is one of the better options when establishing whether or not your website is bringing you business. You can also get free visitor counters, guestbooks, messageboards, you name it, the list is endless. I have tried several, many of which had pop-up adverts appearing all over the place on my nice new site back then. Even some of the domain name providers, such as UK2, still advertise on your page. I have found 1and1 to be the best, so far, with no ads that I am aware of.
I sincerly hope that this helps some of you to try setting up your own website and facing the exciting challenge of marketing it and earning some extra cash. At worst, you could spend about £5 and then do nothing but, at best, it could be the wisest fiver you have ever spent when you start seeing a return. I'm happy if my personal site pays for itself, my Internet and my telephone bill because any saving on my part is FANTASTIC!I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Hi
For a completely no effort way to own a website, go to https://www.buy.at and affiliate with them and get a free store. Worthwhile if you can get friends and family to buy from it.0 -
... alternatively just use quidco.co.uk to earn commission as they are top tier affiliates pulling the highest commission tiers available from the merchants because of the volume of customers they push thru the merchant sites.0

Hey Mr Tall

Ive played around with websites for a couple of years and its really hard work and time consuming trying to get the design right.
Ive a new idea I am really quite exited about and while researching, I came across www.WOWultra.com.
This is message board software (not unlike MSE's although thats powered by Vbulletin)
The licence is $99 and hosting starts at around $6 a month with a FREE dot com,net or org domain name . You do get a months free trial so you can learn your way round it.
They (Jim and Di) can customise it for a small fee around $70 /$80 so you can add google adsence, affiliate banners etc, etc. They offer a personal service, rare in this day and age.
With a good idea, you can be up and running for under 200 GBP.
If you arent willing to spend (at least) a few hundred MINIMUM, just forget it, and stick to the day job and try and scrape a bit more overtime.
Once you have all this in place, you need to promote it and get it up the search engine rankings.
I know a guy who spends 5 grand a month promoting his website. Theres literly 100s of millions of sites out there, so its not easy getting up there.Quality content helps though, thats what MSE is built on after all
http://www.affiliates4u.com/ is a really good forum for finding out about all the different affiliate programmes0 -
I run my own search engine and directory. It pulls in 300 - 500 per month but its taken 2 years to get to that stage and iv 510 pages and 2250 inbound links.
Just to bring you guys down to earth. Its possible to make a nice profit off the internet. It doesnt cost alot but it does take ages to get it right!
There are loads of made for adsense sites out there. Most a pure rubbish! If I was going to start building a website today I would take a short course in web design at a local college in the evenings. Atleast you will be able to make use of a few pro techniques to set your site apart from the rest.0 -

ditto - my sentiments exactly, it is pure hard work and you have to be prepared to be in it for the long haul to see good money coming in0 -

What is there to explain, it explains it in the posts. Free webstore full of affiliate links, use buy.at and then ensure friends and family use it... alternatively use a 100% cashback site for your own purchases as they tap into the highest tiers of commission from merchants on their sites.0
