Where is this 10p coming from? Haven't seen a tariff like that for a while.

9.029p per unit from outfox the market

Interesting. I'm not far from Taunton, but the best rate for me shows as 10.7p with a 23p DSC. Not so appealing.

There is quite a bit of difference between the 14 uk electricity regions and 22 (south west) is one of the most expensive, hence 10.7p instead of 9p - i would guess that 10p per unit would be the uk average price

Never pay on an estimated bill. Always read and understand your bill

    Yes.

    Filler.
  • I live in small semi detached. The gas boiler is old & inefficient but worse it is in a small bedroom which seems unsafe to me. There is really nowhere else to put it, what with the necessity of a flue. I’ve just completed an application for 4 quotes for an electric boiler. I’m not hugely well of but I’m not going to quibble about a few pounds here & there, especially as electric boilers are much more efficient. Obviously it depends on your financial circumstances & other priorities, but I think it’s easy to exaggerate the differential between the two. It is after all a boiler, so it’s not as if it’s guzzling electricity all the time.

Any boiler that's not ancient will be room sealed, so it can go anywhere you like.

Electric boilers may be more efficient, near 100% as compared with 70-90%, but with the fuel at triple the price, heating the house in winter will be expensive.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.

Electric boilers are indeed more efficient (100% vs 80-90%) but electricity costs 5x the price for the same amount of energy. So even if your gas boiler was only 60% efficient then your bill for electricity would be 3x what you are currently paying for gas. It's far far more than a few pounds difference for you to quibble over.

It's not unsafe to have a gas boiler in a bedroom any more than it's unsafe to have it in the kitchen. Ours is in a cupboard on the first floor landing.

Whats the point of electric boilers? As all electric heating is 100% efficient regardless of how its created fitting electric heaters in each room would be equally as efficient and avoid the extra installation costs of pipework, the extra maintenance of pumps etc and the space taken by the boiler itself.
Heating centrally by gas then moving the heat is a practical solution as mini gas boilers in every room is impractical but thats not a problem with electric heaters.
