Surprise second contract

Hello all

This is my first post and it's a bit of a silly one. I feel like such an idiot.

I've been paying for two mobile phone contracts on Three mobile but only using one. To my knowledge I have never used the second one, as i didn't know i had it. It doesn't show up on my app but I've been paying £12 a month!!

I tried the Three live chat to ask about it and the rep gave me the number for the second account (which I didn't recognise) and said I'd authorised it but I genuinely have no recollection of signing up for two contracts at the same time! I mean, why would I do this??

I feel really embarrassed to have done such a stupid thing. I usually have a good relationship with Three, in fact i just negotiated a new contract with them and did pretty well considering I have anxiety! I guess my query is- do you think I can get the second contract money back?

    There's no way of saying from the information you have given us.
    How, when and where are you supposed to have authorised this second line? Has it ever been used? Could it have arisen when you negotiated the second contract? Did the first one get cancelled properly.

    These points all need answering, I suspect you'll need to talk to them again. Perhaps use an email via their complaints procedure if you find that easier.

    Many questions spring to mind.

    Can you get My Three access on the website for the 2nd contract? Look on there what tariff/plan, contract start date etc. Check whether it's identical to your current agreement; possibly duplicated the order in error? Was it for a 2nd phone or just a SIM only plan? If for another phone, where is it?

    Or is it a 2nd contract you took out, after thinking you had ended your last one and not realised? Look through the account and bills. See if any usage has been done etc.

    Also worth checking your credit files on one of the many free websites. See if 2x Three contracts show and what dates are on the accounts etc.

    Check your bank, do you have 2 Direct Debits paying 2 bills to Three? Go back on your statements how far has it been?

    Lastly try complain to Three if this is a completely un-used and duplicated account. See if you get lucky and get any money back... Just don't forget the whole point of this exercise is to cancel that SIM/contract if it's genuinely not being used. Or you'll keep paying obviously!

    Whether you used it or not is irrelevant. What matters is how it was created and authorised in the first place. When did the second contract commence?
    How come you didn't notice that 2 DD's to Three were being taken on your bank statement?
    You negotiated a 'new' contract: by this I assume you mean an upgrade? Starting an entirely new contract does not cancel your old one.
    No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
