Hi,

My living room window has big gaps around it which are making a very loud noise when its windy. The gaps are too big to use some filler so wondering what is the best option? get it plastered?

How big are the gaps, and how fussy are you on finish and appearance? Decorators acrylic caulk will seal gaps - you could put a bead say 10mm wide, and if you wished you could go bigger. It is cheap at around £1.20 a tube and Polyfilla brand is good but many places retail this much dearer. It is water based so easy to work and tool up, and you apply it with a skeleton gun.


The better stuff has a fungicide in - like Polyfilla brand. Avoid No Nonsense brand because it is watery and has no fungicide.


Decorate over it to colour match your walls/windows. However it is available in white, magnolia or brown so these colours may be fine undecorated. Your choice on that.

I would also look at getting the frames sealed on the outside too to stop damp penetrating in.

Could you may be use joint backer rod to fill the gaps and then plaster over?
