Does anyone know offhand whether first direct still have a seven year limit on re-applying for a switching account to get the bonus?

Have they ever had a seven year limit? For as long as I can remember they've only offered switching bonuses to customers who've never had an account with them and this is certainly their current policy, as per http://www2.firstdirect.com/1/2/banking/switching-bank-accounts:

we can only offer this to people who haven't previously held an account with us

As ever, it's important to read and understand the Ts & Cs, not just what they do say but also what they don't - if there isn't anything about such a post-incentive period then you should be OK.

For what it's worth though, to the best of my knowledge it's only the Nationwide refer-a-friend offer that has such a stipulation, but check the terms for the one you have in mind anyway....
