Washing machine not working after 18 months

Retailer saying there's nothing they can do as is past 6 months and manufactorer is not responding to emails (been 5 days now).

Who is the better one to go after? I believe the quality is not up to standard if it's only lasted 18 months so assumed I could take that to the retailer?

    Retailer.

As it's over six months from purchase is is your responsibility to prove that it is an inherent fault which has caused the machine to stop working. You can do this by commissioning an independent report stating what the problem is and whether it is inherent (i.e. as a result of something wrong in the manufacturing process). If it is you are able to pursue the retailer for a remedy. This remedy can be repair, replacement or refund. Any refund offered can be reduced to take into account the amount of time you've had use of the machine.
