Large Gas Leak at Meter, what should I do about my bill?

There was a large gas leak at my gas meter outside my house (the valve corroded and had to be replaced)
I've lived there 8 months and never took a gas reading. What should I do about the bill? How much should British Gas take off?
The engineer who replaced the valve said it was a big leak (even he seemed surprised) but didn't quantify it.

Why do you think that BG should reduce your bill if as you state the leak was at the valve, which is before the meter?0 -
Valve is after the meter0

Can you post a picture of this valve after the meter? You are responsible for anything after the meter, so again why do you think that BG should reduce your bill?0 -

So if they want to change the meter - as is required from time to time - and the 'valve is after the meter; how do they manage?0 -

Maybe you have a gas value you (got) installed after the meter.
However the companies valve is always before the meter.
Your valve is your resposibility even though I expect it does not exist and there is just one before the meter like everybody else.0
