No, apparently a manager, according to the email.
    Go for the jugular!:p
  • Barclays gave us copies of statements for 3 bank accounts & a list of all D/Ds & S/Os. Santander did the same. Tesco gave us full mortgage details. All 3 did so on sight of just the death certs. In person though, not email.

This is outrageous ! Can't anyone get a copy of a death certificate ? So anyone from a professional criminal to a nosey neighbour could very easily walk into a bank and get every intimate detail of your financial situation, what that could lead to is unthinkable.
I thought our situation was a bit lacks-a-daisy, my boyfriend's father died recently and they found a letter from a credit card provider saying they were changing T&C's etc and he had funds on his card. They didn't even know he had this card, so his sister phoned them explaining his death, fully expecting a whole palarva of sending solicitor letters, probate forms etc but no they just asked for a bank account (any account) that they could pay it into, she gave hers and the money was in within 2 days. That was it no ID, verification, death certificate, nothing !

    I'm amazed.

Is it possible the beneficiary may have "misrepresented" the situation to the bank???

The word you are looking for is "lied"! Not unusual I suspect.
  • I never like to use the "L" word where wills are involved!

The Bank has a certified copy of the Grant so has no excuse at all. I am livid that they have given away information to whoever came along and asked.
For all they knew, it could have been a nosy neighbour, or even someone intent on committing fraud. Thankfully it was a beneficiary.

No, ironically, it was the 'ethical' bank.
