How do you find HSBC's customer service / website/app for personal banking?

  • I agree HSBC's interface is pretty dreadful on the app and website. It is nowhere near as good as Natwest's, in my opinion.

This is why I have always continued to run my real main current account from Natwest, with several other accounts for switching to access bonuses and better savings rates etc with other banks.

The latest incarnation of the website is a great improvement but that still leaves them way behind, say the Halifax. Downloading statements is horrible as they only offer pdf files and getting those into a spreadsheet is painful.

You can download midata, which is suitable for CSV, from the manage button on the main web site when viewing an account. I haven't tried importing it myself though.

    the website is OK.

But I'm going to switch away from HSBC for another reason - their anti fraud systems are a complete pain. Roughly every 9 months they block my card and tell me it's been copied. I don't believe it has. Then I have to collect a new card from one of their branches. The last straw was it happened in USA on holiday and I had to spend £95 on international calls trying to get the block lifted.

Its a good idea to let the bank know of your travel plans each time you go abroad if you are going to use that bank's cards. It is then less likely your transactions will get stopped.
