Claiming old PPI

I had PPI on credit cards, store cards and loans between 1996 and 2003. I know the companies and reference numbers and that there was PPI but nothing else. I cannot honestly remember the details or circumstances of taking out the PPI. Can anyone please advise as to how to proceed with a claim?

  • It's only a claim if you are looking to claim on the policy.

If it's a complaint, you write with the reasons you believe the policy was mis sold. If you don't have any reasons, then you don't really have a complaint.

It's also unlikely that the companies would still have a record of you.

Won't that be awkward, if you're not sure what you're complaint is about?

Fortunately you've got the reference numbers, so that should help the lenders locate details of older credit accounts you had with them.

Firstly, phone their PPI helplines, numbers on the bank's websites, and ask them to check their systems. If they can't find your records you can send a Subject Access Request which costs £10 for a more in depth search of their archives.

If your loans were unsecured, they may have been set up with a single upfront PPI premium which are grounds for complaint.
