Medical Exemption for Me and My Wife Help Pls

Options
Hello everyone,

A few years ago for no reason we stopped getting medical exemption certificates despite of us been eligable for them. So I phoned up the department who dealt with this and they said that I did not need one, we could just be checked up and it would show. However this is not the case, and the information I was told was false and that was from HMRC too. So my wife went to the dentist today, for the last 12 years we have been going there however this time reception asked to see our certificate, we explained we were told we did not need to show them and she said that we did. So I was a little taken back because I thought she could of just checked it up. We claim CTC our income is less than £15,000 so there should not be any problem for this am I right here?

HOWEVER!

Since we first claimed CTC over the last 6 years our situation has changed. I am now on income based ESA and PIP my wife is my carer. So I understand I am able to tick on the sheet she gives us that I am on ESA income related however I make the ESA claim not my wife. Does my claim for ESA cover both of us, so if we are in this situation again then we both tick ESA income related?

I know where it is I can tick on the sheet, but it is my wife where im confused. She does not work as she is my carer, and I believe with her being my wife is that a joint ESA claim so in theory she can tick that section too?
I would appreciate any advice thanks everyone x

As you claim as a couple then yes she can tick the ESA Income Related box.

If receiving an income based benefit you’re not eligible for a tax credit exemption certificate as you do not need one. You use your esa award letter as proof of entitlement.
