Mortgage Express - Sun Alliance -Payment Protection Plan 2004

Hi
Just looking into PPI that my wife took out in 2004 on her first house. She could recall being told that she needed to take out payment protection before getting the mortgage, anyway managed to find some paperwork from Mortgage Express, which states

3) You must complete and return to us the Payment Protection Plan Application form and Sun Alliance Direct Debit Mandate prior to release of the loan.

Understand that it was a condition of the mortgage allowed back then.
Therefore wondering if it worth checking with Royal? Sun Alliance via resolver if PPI was taken out and if so whether to start a claim?

Thanks

If it was a condition, which is appears to be, what would your complaint reason be?
