  • In refernce to my post above this website, glassesinsurance.co.uk contains a very good article on why one should consider a specific glasses insurance policy, over relying on house insurance to to the job.
    Hope this helps.

  • If you google glasses insurance you should find a site called Protect Your Spex

I got insurance on mine for £20 for 2 years. They were very expensive as I have a strong and odd prescription, the lenses were just over £200 and also the frames were £200. If they broke I'd have no way to replace even just the lenses so I always get insurance- without my glasses I can't even see bus numbers so they are essential.
  • You could try insureyourglasses.com
  • I have a money saving tip for cheap glasses - search for Ciliary Blue online.
If you have some decent old frames or like me only have glasses for 'emergency contact lens backup' this saves so much money, expecially if like me your glasses would look be thick and heavy without the more expensive hi-index lenses!! And because you're using your own frame there's no bother about the frames not fitting properly as you have with buying new frames online.
Whilst I appreciate that you pay opticians for a professional service and you can't put a price on your eyesight, don't be under any allusions that opticians don't make a very, very tidy profit indeed and I honestly don't think it should cost £200+ for a (wearable) new pair of glasses.
Also, if you use a computer regularly at work you'll be entitled to a free eye test voucher!
