Carers Allowance

Options
I currently claim Carers Allowance for my son. And my wife earns over the earnings threshold.

We are looking to swap roles and I am going to take on more work and she is going to take less hours.

Has anyone had good or bad experiences in switching the carer for Carers Allowance claim? Is it simple? Is it even possible?

Thanks

    You cannot 'switch' Carer's allowance.

Your OH would have to end her claim and you would have to apply.

    I don't see it being a problem.

As long as the wife does not claim until her wages are below threshold.

I believe if you keep your claim open and she claims when her wages are low enough i.e. she claims without you closing yours....that Carer's Allowance will do a Rogue Claimant procedure, whereby they will contact you and ask if you agree to relinquish your carer status so that your wife can take over... they will then do a seamless transition where they stop your claim and start hers from the following day...

    I think.
