How can you confirm the account holder yourself, I don't think you can?0 -
Yes I see now Archi Bald is saying that the Bank cannot confirm the account holder, but they can of course. You say to the bank does this Sort/Acct No belong to Joe Bloggs Motors.
Under what circumstances do you think they would say that? And would you be happy if I asked the same thing about your account? In either case the ICO would be all over it.0 -

I asked this question on another thread yesterday but I don't think it has been answered yet: are car dealers still taking card payments of any sort, given that they can no longer charge for the card payment and will need to absorb the cost themselves into their profit margin (or find some other way of gouging the unsuspecting punter)?

Well I can only say it worked for me when I wanted to check that the sort/acct/name for a solicitors account I had been given were correct. The bank were not giving me any information I did not already have, but confirming the information I had was correct.

I need to transfer a large amount of money to a bank acount to pay for a car. It's from a (reputable) dealership, and the salesman has sent me their account number and sort code.
How has he sent them? Never Ever Ever send money to an account number you've received by email or text message, without confirming the details in person or by phone. And if it must be by phone, ring them on a "known" number - not the one they give you in their email!
I know of a case where a solicitor's email address was spoofed, and someone sent their house deposit to a fraudster.0
