Should a Smile.co.uk snoop about my coop bank account

I phoned up smile as I asked them to close my two smile accounts I had, both together had a balance of zero (1 had £100, other had -£100) as I didn't have the card to do the transfer with the pin pad machine.
It turns out they were never closed and I now owe an additional £46 due to interest charges.
When I use there message service to query this, the representative also informed me that I had a coop account that was £16 overdrawn.
Should they be looking at a coop account owned by me, but never linked to these accounts?
Thanks on this trivial matter, just want to get it resolved before closing the account and using the coop as a second account to start the current account switching scheme.

Well they are ALL coop accounts really, as Smile is Coop. So maybe not a problem?
But not sure I understand your original problem as Smile is internet banking and you wouldn't need a card reader to transfer from one Smile account in your name to another smile account n your name.0 -

I can't remember exactly, but I think when I went to do the transfer it asked my to do something on the card reader, and for the account it was coming from, I never knew the pin.
I just wasn't sure if they should be allowed to access the coop account for no reason, but understand they are both owned by the same group. Maybe it is more an ethics thing.
Thanks

Same banking licence.
What's the problem?0 -
Smile doesn't exist in its own right, it's just a trading name the Co-op Bank uses for certain accounts.0

It is a common things with many banks. BOS and Halifax can see all accounts (not Lloyds though) and believe HSBC and First Direct can too0

They even share the same phone number 03457 212 212. If you have a telephone banking PIN you get all smile and Co-op account information when you choose the automated option to hear balances on all your accounts
Britannia savings accounts do still remain on a separate system (for now).0 -
Thanks for all the replies.
I just found it weird he was looking at the coop account when I myself have to use a different login to see that account.
Anyway, it looks like I have just found three donor accounts0
