Egg PPI - lost account details

Grateful for advice on whether it is even worthwhile trying to claim PPI compensation - I had an Egg Card opened in the early 2000s and then closed a number of years ago (certainly before 2011 but not sure when). Unfortunately, as I had closed the account a long time ago I got rid of all the documentation I had when we moved house and it was also linked to a now defunct email address. I know Egg has now transferred to Barclaycard - but am conscious that I closed the account more than 6 years ago and I don't seem to be able to find any details in my own files - so I am not confident I will have any success in asking for the account records. I was employed (not self-employed) at the time. I am certain I had PPI - and seem to remember being pretty unclear at the time why I was getting it (it was my first credit card). Is there any route that it is worth me exploring? Or is this just a lesson in keeping records even years after they seem to have passed their useful life? many thanks in advance

Egg keep good records. It's Canada Square Operations you complain to.
Make a complaint to them, they will either reject or accept. Come back and update when they have done either.

  • Thanks - got those details and will do - if anyone has any template advice (eg what details to provide - presumably previous addresses etc) that would be gratefully received - otherwise I will draft one and see how I get on ... ta for advice
  • I’ve literally just reclaimed with egg, had no details but I used the resolver site (it’s free) and used their template. I was the same with an old address and email and they found mine no problem.

Started the case 17th November, they sent a questionnaire out to me, I received a letter upholding my complaint on 10th January and received the cheque Saturday morning for just over £5k :)

    Good luck
  • Sorry meant to say mine was from 2005 and I had life insurance, six months sick pay and death in service benefit. I told them this at the time and I was still told if need ppi. I did tell them I could send a copy of my work contract if they needed any evidence but they didn’t query it.

Hi, what is the online resolver please?
    It's just an E-Mail template.

If you want to use it, you can search for it on the main Money Saving Expert site.

However, it's easy enough to send your own letter or E-mail of complaint.
