Cost of damp proofing one wall

Has anyone on here got any experience with damp? I think we have rising damp but it's an internal wall . On the other side is what used to be a pantry store/coal house which the owners before us shoved a loo in . I can see a very small crack on this wall but nothing else ? Can anyone advise before I call someone out ? Are we talking hundreds / thousands. The rest of the house is fine . It is literally just this one wall.

I think this rather depends on the size of the job. I’m having a 13’ solid brick external wall with large window done, and non-specialist quotes are coming in around the £1,000 mark. Specialists should be able to provide a 30 year guarantee.

Getting quotes in shouldn’t cost you money. Years ago damp would have worried me but now I think “all in good time”.

  • Thank you . Ours is nowhere as big as yours . It's just worrying as I don't know if they will come and say hundreds or thousands .

A small wall should be less than £500 (based on an invoice for work previously undertaken).

Treat the cause of the damp and not the symptom!

Why do you have a damp wall? Is it high water table, poor ventilation/condensation, leaking pipes? Even problems around the outside of the house can end up showing up inside instead of on the external walls depending on what has been done to the house over the years or indeed what it is constructed of.

Find out why (not using a damp specialist that offers a free survey) by using a reputable damp surveyor (preferably one that doesn't carry out the repairs) and then get a reputable *insert trade depending on cause* to carry out the repairs.
