Travel insurance and medical conditions

We have never declared a childhood illness suffered by my husband which is now in the news that it can come back and cause issues in older life. With the way insurance is nowadays has anyone else coming across having to declare such things. He hasn't been diagnosed with the later life syndrome but just as I have to put depression down (postnatal suffered 30 years ago) because of what it is, does this apply too?

When you apply for travel insurance the insurer sets out the way pre existing conditions are dealt with (usually either by way of questions or an assumption you must agree to.)

If the childhood condition is asked about then you must disclose it

(Have you been asked about 30 year old post natal depression when applying?)

My interpretation is that that wouldn't need to be declared - he is not currently diagnosed with a medical condition, therefore nothing to declare.

However there are certain types of condition that you have to declare if you have ever suffered from them, even if you don't currently. As Quentin suggests you'll need to check if this one is included, which will vary by insurer.

It may however be in your interest to declare it regardless if you're concerned that it may reoccur and want to have cover for it.
