Barclays to sort probate?

I will also mention that we dealt with several banks (Barclays, Lloyd's, Nationwide, Santander and NS+I) for probate. And the only one who gave us any problems was Barclays.
We booked an in branch appointment with bereavement officer. She was off sick and rather than reschedule, they gave us a Saturday girl who didn't have a clue. I knew more than she did. Would have made more sense to apologise and reschedule.
Dwp asked for information on bank accounts held, for overpayment query.
Guess which bank took forever and had to be chased, and then sent inadequate information. Chased again, and they sent us war and peace!!!
The final nail in the coffin for Barclays was over a year later we received a letter addressed to the deceased. Telling her that her account was being changed. Yep they'd missed an account when we asked many many times to check for accounts. We asked so many times as the deceased had several accounts we had no knowledge about. NS+I found two with a large sum in both. So we asked the other banks she had accounts with to double check.
We had two complaints with Barclays. And they found in our favour both times.
So yes I also have a bad feeling about Barclays.
If your brother really won't deal with it, and won't let you, then yes I believe a solicitor would be better.
If he wants it dealt with speedily, then Barclays is definitely to be avoided.0 -
Thank you shelldean
My mothers bank account was with barclays and when they were informed of death thats when they said they could send someone round to talk about what you can do after death.
A man came to the house and told my brother all about what they can do and my brother asked him several times about is this all that will be charged amd no hidden costs at the end and the bloke told him nothing will be added apart from the 3rd party charges. He told my brother that it would be straightforward amd will only take a few months.
My brother said it sounded perfect and quick and easy so signed there and then. Now he agrees he should have waited and done some research so thats what im doing.
I will tell him about this and see what he says. Thank you0 -

As he's already signed it may not be straightforward to get out of. I honestly don't know.
But I hope it can be resolved one way or another as the last thing you need at this time is grief xx0 -

How long ago did this happen? As the contract was signed at your brother's home he would likely have a 14 day cooling off period during which he can change his mind and cancel the agreement.
