Increased premium but didn't know a claim had been made

I have recently received my renewal documents that have almost doubled my premium on last year.
On looking at the document in more detail they cite a claim in May 2017.
I did slip into the back of a car at stationary traffic lights and called through to notify them. This was on 25th May 2017. I received a text that evening to say they would keep me up to date.

Regular email/account and text checking showed no contact from the company. Until today when I am, hit with this renewal document.

Where do I stand with this? Can they just do it and not let me know?Surely they need to keep me in the loop?
If it's just the notification they are using and no claim has been made, can they do this?
How long will it take to be removed?

Any help gratefully recieved.

  • You were involved in an accident - it doesn't matter if you didn't actually claim. You will also have to declare that for the next 5 years.

If you don't like the renewal, shop around.

They can deal with claims as they think fit - though it was poor of them not to inform you if they have paid out on a claim

It may be they haven't, but have kept the claim open pending a bill from the third party

Contact them to find out what is the situation and take it from their reply - if no claim has been received ask how long before they close the file (and reinstate any lost NCD you have suffered over this)

Maybe they havent paid out yet. Maybe it is still ongoing and you have had your NCD reduced pending a fault decision. That could be why you have received nothing.

The only way to get an answer to this is to ring them and ask.

You dont mention if your NCD has been impacted on not.
