We have a holiday in Jamaica in February and have just tried to cancel it due to the state of emergency being announced, increase in shootings and military action. Thomson say i will loose in excess of £1000 for the flights as the government haven't said 'stop flying there'. We obviously don't feel safe or comfortable going there. Any help in dealing with them please?

Thomson are sticking to their contract, the terms that you agreed to when booking. So you are asking them for a favour, something that they might choose to offer on a goodwill basis but are not obliged to do, and the most that anyone could ever hope for would be rebooking to another destination rather than cancellation.
For now, all the evidence is that tourists who remain in their resorts are absolutely safe. If that is the kind of holiday that you had planned then there is no reason for anxiety, and you should relax and enjoy your time there. Of course, if the situation were to deteriorate so that government advice changed then Thomson would be pleased to assist you.0 -
