New TV questions

I need to replace my current Toshiba TV as it is a bit old and the sound has deteriorated.

I'm looking at a 32" Smart TV (a bit step up on the current 22") which I think is the max size I want and plan to visit JL to look at what they have on offer, looking online they seem to stock about 10, I've looked at the reviews and similar reivews elsewhere. Having looked at their website I'm none the wiser really, there are so many options with it seems subtle variations. I want one with good sounds as don't want to go down the sound bar route. I don't watch a lot of TV anyway, but want something decent for when I do.

I know I need 2+ HDMI slots (an old fashioned SCART would be ok too). I don't want a TV with inbuilt DVD rec/player. Can someone give me an idea of what I need to focus on?

Right now I have a Freesat Humax box with satellite dish, and an old DVD rec/player I'd like to continue to be able to use.

Am I right in thinking that the Freesat box is the element of the set up that provides the options? I mean, the TV Guide format, On Demand channels and options? And the TV is in effect just a way to screen things?

Lots of questions sorry, but still can't figure out things after doing a bit of online research and don't want to be at the mercy of some sales pitch.

TIA

I can't offer help as I'm clueless with tv's but when I've had a query of this sort I would recommend copy and paste it across at AV Forums.

    Thanks I will try that.
  • I have a toshiba tv/ dvd combo , and so far still love it after approx 4 years . I’ve always gone for toshiba. I have a similar set up to yourself with humax freesat Box . I made my tv into a smart tv by getting an Apple TV and plugging my old Mac mini in there .
So that’s the long winded infom..

John Lewis do the same as my tv but it’s now a smart tv .
I know you said that you don’t want a dvd combo, however they may have the same model without the dvd . Check heir website .

As for not going down the soundbar route : Tbh new TVs are not made for sound quality . They’re really multi task monitors imho .
Have you got a stereo you could plug into? If you have a Bluetooth speaker , your new tv ( providing it has Bluetooth) should sort out your volume idsue out .
  • Regarding the satellite Box : you would probably plug that into your first hdmi socket . Then that records , and has the on demand stuff on there . Your new smart tv should have on demand stuff , bbciplayer / you tube . Etc .also
