We did go through solicitors to get the POA for Mum (Health & Finance) and was around £800. She was at the early stages of dementia and wanted to ensure that 'independently' she was assessed that she was not being forced to sign the documents. Agree you can do them online and easy to do but need to do it when you have capacity!- The health one is just as important as the finance one as when my Mum did 'lose capacity' we knew what her wishes were around DNR which as her illness progressed were asked by several medics at various times.

  • It would seem that you have plenty of assets other than your home, so I do not understand the need to split the ownership.

Putting other assets into trust will not take them out of care assessment, as that is deliberate deprivation of assets.

Just be thankful you are not going to be forced into an over my dead body home if you ever do need residential care, and do not waste money on useless care fee avoidance schemes.
