Me saying it was irrelevant was in relation to you saying them normally paying £0 would put OP in a weaker position. I'm saying its irrelevant to the breach of copyright because thats not how copyright law is applied - it would be a pretty backwards way of applying it.

Otherwise pirates (or at least the minority of pirates who never/rarely pay for any type of media) would have a field day when caught for copyright infringement.
