Verbal Contract

Evening all,
I will not bore you with the details but basically I am a small business owner and have been stung by an energy company who say they have a verbal contract with me whereby I agreed to a contract over the phone.
Me trying to get out of the contract is now becoming rather messy and basically I want to access a copy of said recording. However I believe the energy company will just ignore my request.
Do they legally have to provide the recording? And if they don't, what would you suggest for me to try and obtain a copy from them?
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you all.

Hi Kcaj94
I'm dealing with something similiar, am going to do a Subject Access Request asking for all info they have on my account including copies of all phone conversatons/transcripts they have connected to my account. I'm getting info from ico.org.uk if you want to check it out.
If you google your energy companies name along with subject access request eg. 'EDF subject access request' you might find a link to their website giving you a specific address of where to send your request. Usually you have to send them a £10 cheque as well to cover costs. If you don't see the info online you could phone their helpline or email customer services to find out.0
