Natwest mortgage PPI claim refused

I brought my 1st house with my husband 10 years ago through Natwest. Being young (and naive) we didnt research mortgages too much, and sorted it over the telephone rather than using an independent financial advisor etc. The topic of PPI came up when sorting the mortgage, so I explained that I worked for the NHS and received sick pay for 12 months etc and redundancy pay (my husband didn't in his employment so wasn't too sure about him and asked for info). We were told we both needed to take the PPI, that a joint policy wouldn't be any good to us, and that even I wouldn't be covered through my employment with the NHS and would need to take out a policy. As I said, young and naive, so complied.
Fast forward 10 years - I submitted a complaint, my husband has received a payout, but mine has been refused! Bit confused about it so questioned it - have been told we should have only been sold 1 policy, and only in the households main wage earners details (mine) which supposedly gave the reason for my husband's pay out. Apparently I aren't entitled to anything as working for the NHS isnt a valid reason... (yet when I looked into loans I had years ago with Barclays they did layout with the reasoning that I didn't need PPI as I worked for the NHS). Anyone else had problems with Natwest / RBS, and any ideas what more I can do?

Actually, there is a bit of truth in there.

Policies are either set up 50/50 or 75/25 or 100/0. So, to get maximum coverage you are best to take one each. However, that is based on whole of market products. Bank own products are often more restricted (on top of being more expensive)

Which confirms the restriction they have in place.

Working for the NHS is not a valid reason when it comes to MPPI. It can work with loan and credit card PPI but the FOS have been routinely rejecting complaints from public sector workers, inc NHS, who have 12 months sick pay.

The problem isnt with Natwest. Their response seems correct based on what you have said and in line with current FOS decisions.
