Claiming JSA after leaving job

Options
I've just left my job (a call centre) because I've been diagnosed with a rare headache disorder and I've been undergoing treatment. The condition began 3 weeks after beginning my employment and I've steadily been off sick since the beginning of November and the condition isn't something that is going to be managed well in such an environment and so for the sake of my health I decided it was best to resign. I was originally planning on applying for ESA however I feel like I will be fit to work in an environment that isn't going to aggravate the condition so much. Does anyone have any advice on if I'll be able to apply for jsa or not because I voluntarily left my job even though it was for health reasons? I would like to avoid the hassle of applying for ESA because I really do want to start working again to give myself some sort of routine again. The job was in England and I'm now in Northern Ireland, I'm not sure if this makes a difference.

  • I quit my job, but with no health issues so cannot help you there, but you will be entitled to national insurance contributions. You don't get any money, but it will help make up shortfalls in your N.I.
1)The pain is you have to apply for jobseekers as its part of that. I ended up having to apply twice as they rejected my claim without adding the N.I. part.
2)Because I had claimed Job seekers I mentioned this on my Housing Benefit claim which then was delayed as the housing guys wanted to see my jobseekers claim result letter.

Good luck, hope it gets better for you.

Get a note from your GP explaining the medical issue. The decision maker will consider whether you had good reason for leaving the job. On the information given, it's unlikely you'll be sanctioned. If you are, you can appeal the decision.
