Hi Fi unit

Options
My Hi Fi unit is not playing CD's correctly. It goes of on some of the tracks then starts again in a few seconds.
I got two new CD's so figured it couldn't be them at fault. Bought a cleaner which should have cleaned the lens. It did not work.
Tried cleaning the lens with baby bud and IPS. No change.
Does anyone have a suggestion, please?
Keep on trucking!

Where would I get that from?

  • If cleaning has not cured the problem and especially if some CDs play better than others (notwithstanding the track issue above) then becaware that the laser units are often the weak point. They do not last forever especially the cheap ones but can apply to all laser units on audio and computer cd and dvd units.
If the cd player is a cheap one then just exchanging for a new one is the likely best option.
If it is a high quality expensive variety it may be worthwhile consulting the manufacturer for a repair or authorised repairer in your vicinity. With the right equipment it may be possible to correct a focus error, tracking error or replace the laser head but it is not a DIY job.
  • If it’s an all in one stereo and you’ve had it for some time , either the cd ( or tape ) is normally the first to play up .
Not sure if you can afford to buy a new system . They make them cheaper these days .

Sounds like a laser-alignment issue. Hi-fi units can probably be fixed fairly easily by a repair shop.

Non-hi-fi systems are probably cheap enough that a repair isn't economical.

Halfords. It'll be in a spray can, but that's nowhere near accurate enough for this - spray a little onto a cloth or earbud or something to apply.
