I have an apple I pod. My daughter gave me it. There is some music on it but I have lots of CD's which I would like to put on it.
I have been told that the only way to transfer music to the I pod is to buy it from Apple.
Is that the case?

Nope. Unless it has changed itunes will even rip cd's for you.0 -
How would I do that then? I have asked lots of people and they just say they don't know.Keep on trucking!0

Yes, you can rip your CDs. Set the iPod to the side for a while, you don't need it yet. Before you start, goto File, Preferences and find 'import settings'. You can choose MP3 or AAC or lossless, and quality settings. If you're going to do MP3 and space isn't a worry, go for as high quality as possible.
Now, just put a CD in the computer! iTunes will detect it, and should go online and get the track information. It can also get the artwork for you - you might need to be signed into the store for this.
It will ask you if you want to import the CD - say yes, and you'll see it going through the tracks. If it's a laptop, leave it still, you don't want the CD to skip.
And repeat, lots!
Now you've got a Library on your computer. You can put all the music on the iPod, if it has space, or selected stuff. Make playlists to make it easy to select what to put on, then you can just put on 'iPod Playlist' for example.
Plug the iPod into the computer. iTunes should detect it, and will tell you that it's someone elses, and to wipe it if you want to use it. Go ahead. Then you can set what you want to sync and that's about it - see how you go and ask any questions!0
