Ferry to France - Car or on foot

Hi all,
A friend and I are intending to got to Paris tomorrow (Friday) until Monday, from London, but the Eurostar is very expensive.
Looking at different permutations, the TGV from Calais is around £35 return, which is quite reasonable. The question is, hot to get to Calais?
It look like going on the ferry, by foot (rom Dover,) is actually more expensive than taking a car...
If anyone could suggest the most economical way to undertake this journey, that would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance :)

Edit: It looks like the Calais-Paris Train is actually more like €80 return, so I'm open to any possible options.
