UC Overpayment

Options
Hi first post. I started my claim on Monday and got paid yesterday after I called to report my earnings, couldn't believe how quickly I received my money but of course there's always a snag. I received a note in my journal saying that I have been overpaid around £420 due to my earnings being taken down correctly, but apparently not imputed in the system so was showing my earnings as 0. When I saw the amount in my acct thought great, can pay my rent for about 7 weeks, now obviously I can't. I have read that even it is HMRC's error the extra money has to be repaid which is fair enough.
My question is should I repay the whole amount back at once or spend it and pay it back at their suggestion of £48 per month?
I am veering towards paying it back monthly and at least if I spend it now, that'll be 7 weeks rent I don't have to worry about but really not sure what to do.

Pay it back monthly then at £48 if DWP Suggested this then I would just do what they want. Simple :)

Go with the DWP suggestion of paying back at £48 per month. If you try varying from that it's likely to cause additional problems.
  • Have you made sure you wont be paid less next month to make up the overpayment? Just something to consider.
Remember when you judge someone, it does not define them ... You define yourself :j

The OP has already been offered to repay it back at £48 per month, as stated in the first post.
