Do reptiles make good pets?

My daughter has for a few years been saying she would like a reptile pet, either a snake or lizard. She's 19 and I know she would take good care of it, feed it, clean it out etc.
I am wondering what they are like as pets? Are they responsive to their owners? Do they mind being handled and are they quite complicated to care for? I've no experience of keeping one myself and I don't know anyone else who's had one. Any advice will be much appreciated!

They do need special care, heat lamps 24/7 dietary needs. Snakes dead mice(you buy them dead frozen and keep in the freezer and defrost before feeding), lizards live crickets and worms, plus green veg as well. Friend's crickets got loose and flying round the house.:rotfl:

Your tank must be large enough to allow to grow, they can live 20 years if cared for properly. Can grow very big 10 feet plus. So you really need to be committed for a long time.

They are not cuddly for sure and won't come when called though you can handle them. The friend got their Bearded Dragon for grandson who then lost interest. It lives in husband's bedroom and he does let it out for a run round. Though have to keep the cats out, they would treat it as prey.
