Dyson hoover has damaged my carpets

We brought a new Dyson (from Dyson) on 1st Dec 2017, within 2 weeks we realised it was damaging our carpets- leaving friction burn marks. I contacted Dyson who sent an area manager, he took photos and inspected the hoover, couldn’t see any obvious problems so took the Dyson away for testing and arranged to send me a replacement.

Today they have come back to me to say that they found no fault with the Dyson and the friction must have been caused from a build up of hair/fibres on the roller. My argument is that I had the machine for 2 weeks; there’s no way there was a build up of hair large enough to cause this damage. We’ve always had Dysons and never had this problem before so I think the machine must have been faulty.

What can I do? I’ve told them that I’m not happy with their decision that the machine isn’t faulty, they said their legal team had looked at the report and decided they are not liable so there is nothing they will do.

I’m left with damaged carpets and I feel strongly that I’m not at fault here.... can I do anything??

Thanks

Have they given you back your old Dyson, the one causing the problems. Without it you will struggle to prove anything.

They are sending me back the old dyson- I’m looking into getting it tested independently, but I suspect it will come back as good as new! I have requested that they send me back the build up of fibres and hair which they said was on the roller - I remember looking at the roller before they came to collect it and there was only a smallish amount of hair on it- what I would assume is normal for a family home. Just wish I’d had the foresight to have taken photos! I’m hoping the fact that the area manager didn’t noticed a build up of hair when he inspected the roller with me will prove something!

I'm assuming this was tongue in cheek.......

Not a lot you can do if it comes back and it works as it should. There is no way to prove if it was because of the hair or due to a fault they have now recitified.

A friction burn would require the roller to be turning in one place for a prolonged period of time (probably with the roller pushing down more than normal so either damaged or on a non flat area of carpet), regardless of if there was anything on the roller or not.
I can't think of any way for a vacuum cleaner to cause a burn if it's in motion, as the roller needs to be on the same spot for several seconds minimum for the heat to build up.

Where and when did the burn occur?

My sister managed to do something similar with my mother's brand new hall carpet, she sat the hoover on the edge of a stair whilst doing them and the roller was turning against the same spot on the stair carpet for something like a minute or more before she noticed a smell.

Sounds like a right shambles you contacted them about a problem with your Dyson and they came round and inspected your Hoover :rotfl: .

But considering you "Brought" it from them without mention of payment then i suppose you can't expect much ;)
