Paypal buyer protection

I need to know more about paypal buyer protection.
I've read their agreement but I still don't fully understand.
I want to purchase some shoes from a private seller, not through ebay, amazon or any website.
I have asked them for an invoice so I am protected, and they said they don't normally use paypal they like bank transactions but they'll do a paypal invoice for me to make me feel safer.
Does this mean I am covered by the paypal protection??
I've never done this kind of transaction before.

If you pay an invoice which specifies goods or services then you will have the same Paypal protection that you have when you buy through eBay (for instance).

Don't send a friends/family payment.

An invoice isn't necessary, you can just pay using their email.

As long as you send the payment via goods and services, and not gift, you are protected. An invoice is irrelevant to this.
