    Hi there

Okay I've not been to Seattle for 9 years, however, it is a nice place. Worth a visit.

You say that you are going to Vancouver.... well te people that I spoke to in Seattle did say they went to Vaancouver because it is pretty. I assume it is nicer than Seattle. I was there on a freebie mind you so it had a nice feel.

I was at the American Vaccuum Society. :-)

For scientists that make things under vaccuum, not antthing to do with Hoovers.

  • it seems that hardly anyone has been there! i wonder why
  • Seattle is very similar to Vancouver, but not as pretty IMO - but still a very nice city.

Shopping's good & there's lots of touristy things like Pike market and the space needle - the view is awesome.

If you're driving down from Vancouver it does take quite a while to get over the border so prepared for a delay.

If you do decide to make the journey then its worth diverting to La Conner - its a really quaint little town, full of arty-crafty stuff. Or you could visit the cascade mountains & see Mt Rainier.

I have been to the Seattle area but spent little time in the city itself (I am not keen on cities).
The Surrounding area is a sightseer's paradise with Mountains, Volcano's, Rainforest, Off-shore islands, Whale-watching and more waterfalls than you can shake a stick at and with Yellowstone NP just about a full days drive away you may need extra film for the camera for the wildlife alone.
  • Hey
Was in Seattle in May this year
Lovely city very easy to walk around. I stayed in the W hotel which was very central

Places to visit is def Pike Market which has a pile of little stalls and shops, the main pull is the fish stall at the front as everyone crowds around to see the guys throwing the fish to each other shouting, although you do have to wait until someone buys it.

One cool thing when I was there was that it was the centennial of pike market so they have a thing called pigs on parade where stores throughout Seattle have sponsored pigs, artists have painted them weird colours or used different themes and they sit outside for you to see

The needle is good to visit but can be busy

I took a grayline urban tour around the city and went into Freemont and down to the dock area. If you ever watch The Deadlist Catch they moor their boats in Seattle when not up in Alaska

Def visit the public library which is pretty cool with one floor that is completly red, floor, walls, ceilings, stairs http://www.spl.org/

Seattle can be a wee bit hilly when walking up from the dock area, very similar to San Francisco. Its good to go out on one of the ferries to get a good view of the skyline

Did spend time at Mt Rainer, the Olympic mountains, Mount St Helens volcano which was pretty interesting, beautiful scenery. When out and about you should definitely taste the different types of crab. It is only when you get a platter of the types - King, snow, Dungeness and you'll realise that King crab is definitely the tastest

Didn't make it over to Vancouver but if you do have time I'd def visit Seattle or at least the surrounding area. There is no Seattle Grace Hospital and you def won't bump into McDreamy but you can buy Greys Anatomy stuff such as scrubs

Any other questions let me know

  • Hi
I have been to Seattle 3 times in the last 4 years. The first time I went I was very surprised what a nice city it was. There is a lot to keep you occupied when you visit - Space Needle, Pike Place Market, Columbia Center(Better views of the city, but a fraction of the Space Needle's price), Smith Tower, Pioneer Sq. & many other sights/attractions.
If you have a car, then there are plenty of places nearby you can go to take in the beautiful scenery - Snoqualmie Falls, Alki Point(Great views of Seattle) & North Bend(Twin Peaks).
I have also been to Vancouver a few times and loved it. I think that both cities are similar in some ways but both have their own unique identities. I have found that the driving time between can be dependant on the time of day, but there is more than 1 border crossing.

I would recommend visiting both Seattle and Vancouver if you are in the Pacific Northwest.:j

If you have any questions let me know

Seattle is a great city with plenty to do but you soon find out why it is the home of so many coffee shops. The weather is decidedly iffy, an awful lot of rain and despite being close to Vancounver, Canada seems to have much better weather. A great way between the two is to take the Victoria Clipper from Seattle to Victoria on Vancouver Island, it is about 3 hours through gloriuous scenery, spend a day or two in Victoria, which tries to be more English than Windsor, and then carry on to vancouver by regualr scheduled bus and ferry, or car if you have it. I love Vancouver, I would love Seattle but for the weather, after three days rain we gave up and flew south to get some sunshine!
