oh dear..plumbing problems!

Around a week ago our bath suddenly stopped draining properly; taking almost an hour to empty, and we'd end up knee deep in water when taking a shower.
I bought some fizzy tablet things to put down the plughole, and then my flatmate poured bleach down too and it seems to have cleared up.
just now though i pulled the plug on the bath and the bathroom sink started making horrible noises and started violently spitting out dirty stinking water from the plughole. Whats going on? I'm reluctant to call a plumber if it's something we can fix, so any tips will be appreciated.

Hi! Buy one of those rubber cup-shaped things on a short pole, turn on the tap a little, and plunge the cup thing up and down vigorously over the blocked plug hole. It should go whoosh! and all sorts of horid lumps of black smelly things - which have been blocking up your U-bend - will rush up out of your plug hole, and then gurgle away into oblivion, even before you have time to reach for the restorative g-and-something. Only then can you relax, run a refreshing soak, and start to re-block the plug-hole ready for the next occupant of your flat:-)

heee hee..thanks for that. i'll buy one today along with a few of those junk and hair filters for the plugholes. i'll have to persuade someone else to do the dirty work though as i have morning sickness at the moment, so i'm not sure my stomach will like 'horrid lumps of black smelly things'.

Hi, my toilet is not flushing, l press the button flush down and noting happens.

l lift up the base of the toilet, and if l push the main tube up then the toilet will flush, its like something has sank down or jammed.

Can any1 help?
