Ask around as well, I and several of my friends are applying for jobs at the moment, none of us has had much money for a few years and all have changed weight one way or the other. Between us we've each looked plenty presentable at interviews and vivas without spending anything.

If your old clothes are ok just too small you could look for a clothes swap near you.
Unless I say otherwise 'you' means the general you not you specifically.
  • Managed to buy my 20 year old very decent clothes from charity shops including a super smart suit jacket that I could never have afforded new - it cost £5! He looked really good in it too.

If you volunteer in charity clothes shops they give you a fairly good discount too.

Whatever you do, you must get a suit. Borrow £50 from somewhere, but it's really a must have.

£50 will get you a discount suit im sure and it really will be worth it

A suit isn't a must for many jobs, and certainly isn't worth getting £50 in debt for when you're skint. You can do smart without a suit. My last interview was a charity shop jacket for £3.50 - did the job just fine.
In your position I'd request clothes/shoes in my size from a local FB group for day to day wear for now, then save the best ones for interview.
    I agree with Elsien.
A suit is most certainly not a 'must'.

No point borrowing £50 for a suit if the job you're applying for is in a factory.
    Or shop.

Being scrupulously clean is important. Brush your teeth twice ( bad breath is a real turn-off). Nails should be trimmed and spotlessly clean. Shoes polished. Clothes ( whatever they are) freshly laundered and ironed.
Anyone can wear a suit but still look scruffy.
Being clean and presentable suggests that you take pride in yourself and are respectful of the situation.
Go easy on body spray, you don't want to smell like a cheap boudoir! Deoderant definitely, but strong smelling perfumes can be really unpleasant.
