Just to complete the story. After wasting yet another week and seeing no activity from the post office and getting nowhere with the few phone calls that get through at 0801am, I finally closed the account online and cancelled the DD. I opened an account with Aldemore (5 minutes) and transferred the money immediately. An hour later I received confirmation of a successful transfer. That is how a bank should be run! Its a pity that the PO came before Aldemore in the MSE email ....0
